Urgent Appeal in Peru: CHF Launches Emergency Response Team

On the evening of Wednesday, August 15, 2007, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck in the Ica Department of Peru, approximately 200 miles southeast of the capital city, Lima. The CHF Emergency Response Team (CERT) was deployed within 48 hours to assess the damage and determine how best to assist the most vulnerable communities that have been displaced due to the disaster. As a result of the earthquake, more than 60,000 homes have been destroyed, in addition to schools and other infrastructure, and livelihoods have been disrupted.
