INCOME RESTORATIONBolstering sustainable and locally appropriate livelihood strategies is key to a successful relief-to-development transition for communities affected by natural disasters and complex emergencies, such as war or internal conflict. CHF International is a leader in designing and implementing community livelihood restoration strategies in such situations, where populations have been deprived of traditional and familiar income strategies, food security practices, and employment opportunities. In addressing emergency livelihood needs, we work in a participatory manner, while focusing on asset restoration, income generation, vocational training, and employment opportunities, which are designed to rapidly lift vulnerable households into a more favorable recovery system, simultaneously improving long-term economic prospects.
CHF International targets livelihood interventions that demonstrate multiplier impacts within local economies, providing both communities and individuals with more diverse and secure economic growth opportunities. Examples of such interventions include market rehabilitation and reconstruction, restoration of key assets such as livestock or agricultural inputs, and increased productivity through skills training and targeted subsidies—all of which help individuals to get back on their feet following the stress of destruction or displacement.
