Strengthening Local Capacity to Treat HIV/AIDS
The aim of CHF’s work in Kenya is to leave behind a legacy of local organizations that can effectively enable Kenyan communities to live and thrive despite HIV/AIDS. Since 2004, CHF International has been working to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in Kenya by improving the ability of local, community and faith-based organizations to provide high quality HIV/AIDS services.
Through a partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, CHF has helped 40 local organization s to develop strategic plans for providing sustained HIV/AIDS services through a combination of training and technical assistance and grant awards to allow them to put into practice their newly gained skills. The organizations supported by CHF work in a broad range on program areas such as prevention including abstinence and behavior change, reduction of mother to child transmission, condom distribution, blood safety, voluntary testing and counseling, policy and systems strengthening, services for orphans and vulnerable children, basic palliative care, antiretroviral treatment, and palliative care for people co-infected with TB and HIV.
Since the program’s inception, more than 3 million people have received HIV/AIDS services and more than 27,000 service providers have been trained including:
-
More than 600,000 individuals have received voluntary counseling and testing
-
Nearly 3,000 HIV-positive people have been offered TB treatment services
-
Nearly 2 million women and men have been reached with community outreach programs
-
