food truckHumanitarian Assistance for Vulnerable Families

Since the beginning of 2006, political, economic and social conditions have sharply deteriorated for Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza: thousands of families are without any reliable source of income and the restrictions on the movement of Palestinian goods, workers, businessmen, officials and public service providers has intensified dramatically, bringing the economy to a virtual standstill.

Since 2005, CHF International has been a leading provider of humanitarian assistance programs providing critical services for thousands of unemployed, vulnerable families. CHF continues to implement the largest food-for-work and food-for-training program in the region, funded by the UN World Food Program. Working with the U.S Agency for International Development and several other international governmental and non-governmental organizations, CHF’s work covers the entire Gaza Strip and the three major governorates in the West Bank.

Our program, providing gainful employment, viable job skills trainings, and much needed food aid, has assisted over 22,000 families, approximately 150,000 people.

Currently, in coordination with the United Nations Consolidated Appeal Process, CHF International/West Bank & Gaza is appealing to the international community to make a significant investment in assistinglow-income, vulnerable families through:
  • the creation of jobs and provision of food aid to address the recent increases in poverty and food insecurity;
  • targeted actions in the areas of health, education, and social services in order to ease, at least temporarily, the effects of a weakening public sector;
  • new efforts in the areas of agriculture, livestock, water and sanitation in order to strengthen the sustainability of livelihoods; and
  • enhancement of monitoring systems in order to better assess humanitarian needs.
