Low-Income Permanent Housing

In addition to providing transitional shelter following emergencies, we also provide families with the resources to obtain or improve upon their existing permanent houses.

As the communities play an essential role in construction, they are able to generate much needed local employment and attract private sector partners who can support their economic growth. CHF works to facilitate vocational training for community members and hires them to complete the work whenever possible, which results in new skill sets and a massive infusion of short- and long-term jobs.

In the process of learning how to improve their living environments, our programs expand representative community groups’ abilities to complete additional projects on their own. They learn how to work transparently with contractors, mobilize physical and financial resources, report on project progress to their communities, develop new leadership skills, and hold their governments accountable.

As a pioneer in housing microfinance, CHF also works to promote access to the credit and financial services people need to improve their living conditions and realize their dreams.
