Clean Water, Improved Sanitation and Hygiene
CHF International takes a comprehensive approach to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) by coupling infrastructure development, community mobilization, and behavior change communication to improve sanitation and hygiene practices. In addition to traditional WASH interventions CHF has expanded our programs to address water and sanitation needs in post-disaster settings and in the rehabilitation of market places all over the world.
CHF has worked in the WASH sector for over 50 years with programming experience in:
- Increasing access to clean water
- Increasing access to improved sanitation
- Hygiene promotion
- Healthy marketplaces
- WASH in emergency response settings
CHF has worked on water and sanitation projects in more than 15 countries, each time looking for opportunities to engage local private sector industries, ensuring that there is local participation in the decision-making process, design, and implementation of projects, and incorporating behavior change methodologies into our programs to increase the health and well-being of communities.
Since 2000, CHF has completed over 31,000 water and sanitation projects, ranging from constructing latrines, to installing grey water systems, to drilling boreholes, to hygiene improvement campaigns. CHF has connected over 35,000 meters of water supply and sewage lines, improving the sanitation and health of communities in countries such as Afghanistan, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Iraq, India, and Liberia.
