Sudan: Providing Developmental Relief and Rebuilding Livelihoods

Darfur

As you may have heard, many western aid and development organizations have been told to leave Sudan by the Sudanese government. CHF is one of these. For more information on this read our official statement.

We want to assure everyone who has donated and supported the people of Darfur through our projects that their money is being held for that purpose only. Once we are able to return to our work helping the most vulnerable families in the Darfur camps, we will continue producing much-needed fuel efficient stoves and continuing our other work. We will post updates as the situation evolves to keep you informed.

Thank you all for your support for the people of Darfur. You can read about the work CHF was doing in Darfur since 2004 here.

Rebuilding Livelihoods in southern Sudan:

Emerging from more than 22 years of civil war, southern Sudan is beginning the challenging process of rebuilding following the loss of an estimated 2 million lives, the displacement of over 4 million inhabitants and an almost total collapse of infrastructure.

CHF's work in southern Sudan is addressing the need for long-term sustained economic growth and livelihoods for returnees. Our program are:

  • Providing adequate water supplies, increased sanitation facilities, and by mainstreaming hygiene and peace building awareness.
  • Expanding public consciousness of gender-based violence (GBV) while building capacity of local organization and strengthening key mechanisms for preventing and responding to gender-based violence.
  • Providing small business grants to support local groups of business persons and entrepreneurs.
  • Distributing approximately 80,000 radios in three states of southern Sudan to provide access to reliable, timely information.
